ADD — The silent H

When attention drifts away, without anyone noticing.

SkoleElev.ai helps the students who don't make noise — but who quietly struggle to stay focused, keep up and remember where they were.

Invisible challenge

What is "the silent H"?

ADD is the predominantly inattentive presentation of ADHD — literally "ADHD without the hyperactivity". The silent H.

These students don't bounce around the classroom. They sit quietly, gaze out the window, lose the thread mid-instruction and suddenly discover everyone else has started something they didn't hear.

Because they don't disrupt, they rarely get the attention and support they need. Teachers often describe them as "quiet" or "dreamy" — not as students in difficulty.

ADD is particularly under-diagnosed in girls, where symptoms more often manifest as inner restlessness, perfectionism or withdrawal rather than outward unrest.

Evidence-based

Research behind ADD support

Our features are built on research into inattention, executive functions and learning strategies for the quiet presentation of ADHD.

ADD (predominantly inattentive type) accounts for up to 30-40% of all ADHD diagnoses, but is the most under-diagnosed presentation — especially in girls (Barkley, 2015).

Students with ADD are often described as "daydreamers" and are overlooked because they don't disrupt teaching. Their difficulties are internal, not external (Brown, 2013).

External structure such as visual timers and micro-steps compensates for the weakened self-regulation of attention that characterises ADD (Toplak et al., 2006).

Reduced visual complexity in learning environments improves task persistence in students with inattention difficulties (Rief, 2016).

Features

Gentle structure for quiet students

The same powerful tools as ADHD mode — but designed for the student who needs calm and grounding, not speed reduction.

Focus mode

Gently removes badges, streaks and notifications — so attention doesn't have to fight the platform but can rest on the task.

Reduced animations

Minimises movements in the UI that can catch the eye and pull attention away from what the student was doing.

Micro-step task splitting

Large tasks are split into numbered steps — "Step 2 of 5" — so the student never has to think "where was I?".

Visual timers

Visible countdown timers serve as external attention anchors, replacing the internal sense of time which is often challenged.

Automatic short breaks

Gently suggests a break every 10 minutes — not as an interruption, but as a breath that helps the mind return.

Muted colours

Reduces colour saturation for a calmer visual environment that gives space for the mind to collect itself.
